"Writing for Youth: What's Uncouth?"

Published on StopPress.co.nz - Breaking news from the NZ Marketing Magazine.
I joined The Pond – a collective of New Zealand's top freelance creatives – in 2008. At 24 years-old I was the youngest member by quite a few years, so I become the "youth specialist" by default. It also happens to be a demographic I'm really passionate about – which is what lead me to write this piece on why communicating to youth is a whole different ball game, and how to play it.

"Hooked on Facebook"

Published on NZGirl.co.nz, one of New Zealand's top websites for women.
If you want to reminisce about how swiftly social media arrived and took over our lives, check out this retro article from 2007 about the rise of Facebook. I wrote this during my year as a monthly columnist for NZGirl, talking about everything from online dating to flirting in bars. I also had fun playing 'Agony Aunt', responding directly to questions from readers.

LGBT pieces

Being gay is something I'm pretty darn proud of. Supporting LGBT causes – in particular helping out gay youth, is something I'm passionate about. So I like do stuff for the cause, whether it be writing or public speaking.
I've done everything from writing a monthly column for NZGirl.co.nz to going into highschools to tell my coming out story. For two years I co-ordinated the Auckland arm of the Out Takes Queer Film Festival, and I volunteer regularly with Rainbow Youth. My latest massive project is the coming out memoir/anthology I'm writing, called 'The Private Life of Millie McKenzie'.
